Archival artworks
Collectively these artworks were inspired by my days of Bohemian world travel, biographical memories, Bondi Beach lifestyle and my early days as a pioneering art therapist. All artworks have been previously exhibited in my solo shows.
Inspired by my travels throughout Egypt I created this artwork to represent the contrast between my love of ancient Egyptian history and hieroglyphics with the realities of modern-day Cairo and the impact of tourism. I have included a page from my travel journal written by the pool at the Oberoi hotel before I was politely asked to leave! I previously exhibited this mixed media artwork in my solo exhibitions, “Journey through a small planet” and “African Heart.”

Reflections on the shadow side of our lives as mothers, the healthy baby I delivered and the babies I lost. A haunting process to create this artwork but a cathartic experience. This drawing was previously exhibited in my solo exhibition, “Fetish.”

I created this mixed media artwork after returning from my extensive travel journey throughout West Africa and represents my love for vibrant African patterns, colours, textures, masks, Ghanaian Kente cloth and akuaba fertility dolls. I created this imaginative drawing inspired by one of my favourite songs, “Somewhere over the rainbow” as a story I created for my then four-year-old son that we all had magical wings to fly even his cat Sally had little wings! His African father is depicted playing his djembe drum and Sydney’s Centrepoint tower can be seen in the horizon.

I created this large triptych panel which poignantly expressed my complex cross-cultural marriage inspired by the Australian road movie, “True Love and Chaos” starring Naveen Andrews, Miranda Otto and Hugo Weaving. This artwork was previously exhibited in my solo exhibition, “African Heart.”

From my Irish ancestry I was intrigued by this Irish warrior goddess. On a retreat and shamanic vision quest, a vision came to me of this goddess turned Australian bush spirit dressed in flowing ethereal robes, crowned with a halo of interlocking Celtic symbols.

I created this large, winged zebra drawing as a warrior spirit flying into the unknown, unchartered territory of the psyche in the therapeutic relationship. The stenciled tigers mirroring each other. symbolising the strength and courage I was learning to engage in my client’s work. Inspired by the words of the Russian writer Dostoevsky “Compassion is the chief law of human existence” I painted this large mandala to incorporate images of golden buddhas, luxuriant coconut palm trees, dancing African women, wheat sheaves, a swirling infinity symbol and a map of the world inside a heart.
Collectively these images represent my love for our planet and all living beings.

I created this substantial collage as a tribute to my two most powerful experiences of motherhood connected by a rich, golden winding umbilical thread to symbolise the timeless love and connection between mother and child. For a funky spin I entitled this artwork “Zap Mama” after the afro-pop group of the same name. This artwork was previously exhibited in my solo exhibition, “African Heart.”
